What Are You Actually Eating In A Packet Of Ramen Seasoning?
By Kat Lieu
Instant ramen seasoning may seem like a magic powder, but it includes common ingredients working in harmony to add flavor and umami to your instant noodles.
Ramen seasoning has dehydrated aromatics, vegetables, herbs, umami powder or stock granules, salt, spices, sugar, soy sauce powder, and MSG.
The herbs, aromatics, and veggies can include dried shallots, garlic, onion, chives, scallions, cilantro, carrots, or corn. The umami powder can be made of chicken or mushroom.
It's important to note that the ingredients in the seasoning packets will vary between brands and from flavor to flavor —for instance, spicy ramen will often have curry powder.
