Warming Hungarian Mushroom Soup Is Full Of Traditional Flavors
BY ANNIE JOHNSTON
Hungarian food is comforting and warming, and aside from goulash, perhaps the quintessential dish incorporating this cuisine’s flavors is Hungarian mushroom soup.
Common Hungarian flavors include paprika, dill, sour cream, onion, garlic, parsley, and meat. While you can find most of these flavors in the soup, paprika is the true star.
The soup relies heavily on Hungarian paprika, which is widely regarded as the most flavorful paprika variation and ranges in flavor from mild and sweet to spicy and pungent.
For a less traditional flavor, swap the paprika for garam masala, turmeric, or chili powder. You can even add sugar, which will tone down the earthy, umami flavor.
