Use Butter To Prevent Cheese From Drying Out
BY JAVARIA AKBAR
To prevent cheese from drying out, all you need to do is apply a thin layer of butter to the exposed surfaces of your cheese, which will form a protective seal around it.
Uncovered cheese loses moisture in the cold, dry environment of a fridge. The butter protective seal hampers this process and significantly lessens moisture loss over time.
When applying the butter, it’s easier to spread if the butter is at room temperature. Once your butter has a spreadable consistency, spread it over the exposed areas of the cheese.
The buttery layer should be visible on the cheese but not excessive. You’ll then want to place your cheese back in its original wrapping or wrap it in parchment or wax paper.
You can also store your cheese in an airtight container if you prefer. When you want to use your cheese, cut off as much as you need, and scrape off the butter before using.
