Upgrade Your Grilled Cheese Using Nothing But A Microwave
BY JULIA HOLLAND
Placing an uncooked grilled cheese in the microwave before toasting it can enhance it by fully melting the cheese along with giving you time to get your skillet hot.
A classic stovetop recipe requires a low, slow cooking method that lets the bread toast at the same rate as the cheese melts. You can melt the cheese in a microwave instead.
This way, you only use the skillet for toasting bread, which is done over high heat in half the time. 40 seconds to one minute in the microwave should suffice to melt the cheese.
By toasting the bread after melting the cheese, you help dry out the moisture imparted by the microwave so it can better absorb the butter used to toast it.
