Trader Joe's Bourbon Vanilla Bean Paste Is The Tastier Swap For Extract
BY PEGGY AOKI
Trader Joe's bourbon vanilla bean paste has a rich vanilla flavor without an artificial aftertaste. Compared to extract, it’s lightly sweet and not unpleasant to taste solo.
With a base made from sugar syrup, the paste has more flavor when heated as opposed to vanilla extract, which can lose its flavor during the heating process.
The paste also contains specks of high-quality bourbon vanilla seeds, the same ones you'd scrape from the interior of a vanilla bean, which are a visual reminder of your vanilla.
Using vanilla paste instead of extract is a snap — it's a simple equal substitution. So, if your recipe calls for 1 teaspoon of extract, use 1 teaspoon of vanilla paste.
