Officer Big Mac was an anthropomorphic Big Mac who wore a blue police officer uniform and maintained order in McDonaldland. He was retired in the '90s.
One reason the brand retired Officer Big Mac is because their PlayPlace used to have an Officer Big Mac-themed climb-in jail cell that injured over 400 children.
The Big Mac was around for six years before its infectious jingle premiered in a 1974 commercial. It has since been mostly replaced by the "I'm Lovin' It" jingle.
McDonald’s franchise owner Michael Delligatti got the idea of the Big Mac from the Big Boy chain and added it to the menu for hungry steelworkers visiting his store.
According to Delaware Online, each year, McDonald's sells 550 million Big Macs in the United States alone. There is even an "International Big Mac Day" on August 2.
Per a former McDonald's chef, you can turn a McDouble into a Big Mac to save a few bucks. Simply order a McDouble and swap the ketchup and mustard for special sauce.
