The Winter Fruit Ina Garten Uses To Elevate A Classic Gimlet
BY KAREN HART
Cocktail lovers have come up with plenty of riffs on the gimlet, a drink made of gin and lime cordial. Pink peppercorns, cucumbers, basil, and lime are just a few ways to spiff up this drink, but when the colder months roll around, celebrity chef Ina Garten loves to include this seasonal fruit for a pop of flavor and color in her gimlet glass.
Garten shared on Instagram that she uses pomegranate in her special gimlets. The so-called fruit of temptation certainly makes this cocktail more tempting, and to make it, Garten sticks to the classic gimlet ingredients, but adds a little Pom Wonderful pomegranate juice to brighten the flavor and add a festive pink-red color.
Using in-season produce in your cocktails automatically gives you a more flavorful drink, and while Pom Wonderful juice can be found in many supermarkets year-round, take advantage of fresh pomegranate during the winter months. Expensive and somewhat rare pomegranates are also cheaper and easier to come by in winter.
