The Unique Oil You Should Use For Extra Crispy Roast Potatoes
By KATHERINE BECK
A perfect roasted potato’s crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior is best achieved with very hot oil, but one oil in particular has a superior ability to add extra crunch.
Sunflower oil has a smoke point of 450 degrees Fahrenheit, which means the potatoes are less likely to burn during cooking and will turn out perfectly golden and crispy.
When roasting potatoes, be sure to use enough oil to coat the spuds and fill the pan. High-heat cooking will ensure that the oil is hot enough to create a crispy exterior.
Another bonus of sunflower oil is that its taste isn’t overpowering. It's not as high in saturated fats as other oils, and avoiding these fats can reduce the risk of heart disease.
