The Undervalued, Budget-Friendly Oil To Use For Frying
BY MATTHEW SPINA
Deep frying often means using an entire bottle of oil, which can get expensive if you’re using vegetable or canola oil. Corn oil is an effective and more affordable alternative.
Corn oil works just as well as more popular oils, with an equal or lower price tag. It's relatively neutral tasting and can handle high heat without burning or breaking down.
Corn oil's smoke point is 450 degrees Fahrenheit, which is in the same range as other great frying oils. It offers a slightly more buttery flavor than vegetable or peanut oil.
Widely available at most supermarkets, corn oil is also easy to find. You'll feel better about frying chicken or French dries when you know you're saving money per cup of oil.
