The Trick To Sharpening Your Vegetable Peelers Without Any Special Tools
By KAREN HART
A vegetable peeler is one of the most useful gadgets you have in your kitchen drawer, and beyond just peeling veggies, you can use it to slice cheese, make vegetable noodles, and create garnishes for a cocktail. However, if your peeler isn't peeling as well as it used to, it might be time to sharpen it with this easy method.
The same technique you use to keep your knives sharp is the same method you can use on your vegetable peeler. Simply drag a paring knife along the blade or blades, depending on your peeler, and the scraping together of the metal will sharpen the blade, after which you can test your peeler on a potato, carrot, or something else.
If your peeler works better after using the knife method, you're good to go, but if not, try Cuisine at Home's method using a metal nail file. Simply push the file back and forth between the blades, starting with the bottom blade and then repeating on the top, but make sure to wear gloves for any of these methods to protect your hands.
