The Trader Joe's Biscuit Hack To Get Lightning Fast Dumpling Soup
BY CATHERINE RICKMAN
Trader Joe's Organic Biscuits refrigerated dough is a shortcut for tasty biscuits to serve with soup, but this dough also makes excellent dumplings to cook right in the broth.
Southern chicken and dumplings is a dish that combines broth, meat, and biscuits in one bowl for a rib-sticking meal. Trader Joe's ready-made dough really cuts down on the work.
To make dumpling soup, sweat some mirepoix, aromatics, and woody herbs like rosemary and thyme in a pot, then add chicken broth. Once hot, add shredded or cubed chicken.
Open the biscuits and cut each one into quarters. You can roll the dough in your hand to form balls, or cut it into strips so it's more noodle-like before adding it to the pot.
The starch from the biscuit dough will infuse into the broth, making it thick and creamy. The dumplings themselves will be soft and silky after cooking for about fifteen minutes.
A slow cooker can also be used to make this soup, but you'll want to par-bake the biscuits and toss them in at the end of cooking to prevent them from getting mushy.
