The Toothpick Hack For Quickly Deveining Shrimp
By STEPHANIE FRIEDMAN
Deveining shrimp can take a while, but using a toothpick can make the process easier. If your shrimp is frozen, make sure it's thoroughly thawed before you devein it.
Start by wedging your toothpick underneath the shrimp's vein, then pry part of it upward, grasp it, and pull out the rest. You can also use a skewer or even a paper clip.
You'll want to position your toothpick in the second joint from the tail and poke through the flesh and shell. Once you pull the toothpick up, part of the dark vein will pry loose.
