The Story Behind One Unique Mural At A San Antonio Starbucks

Starbucks commissioned Alex Rubio, a local artist with decades of experience painting murals and supporting community causes, to liven up a store location in San Antonio, Texas.
"I hope that when people see my work, they're inspired to find their own connections to community and culture," says Rubio, whose mural has become a main feature of the store.
The painting, a bright canvas of patterns and swirls, portrays two hands holding coffee cherries. The pattern behind the image is a signature of Rubio's work.
Rubio completed the artwork with the help of students as part of the San Antonio Street Art Initiative. He's also done work with Whataburger and the playground Yanaguana Garden.
