When making her multi-layered eggplant parmesan recipe, Ina Garten’s sauce brand of choice is Rao's Homemade Marinara Sauce.
Garten explains that she likes to layer Rao's into her eggplant parmesan, as there's plenty enough prep to do for the recipe without factoring in homemade sauce.
This hack is a game-changer for other dinners too. Simmer your frozen chicken cutlets in it, use it as a saucy braising base for pork, or use it to make a tomato-rich panade.
There are plenty of ways to improve the jarred sauce as well, including adding some salted pasta water, fresh garlic, or another pantry item, canned clams.
