The Spice Ina Garten Uses To Elevate Homemade Cheese Crackers
By KAREN HART
Cheese and crackers is one of the simplest and most delicious snacks you can make, but combining the two components into bite-size cheese crackers might be even better. Food Network star Ina Garten includes a secret ingredient in her cheese cracker recipe that elevates it far beyond the stuff you can buy in a box.
The Barefoot Contessa told Bon Appétit that she uses spicy chipotle chili powder to elevate her homemade cheese crackers. "The sharp Vermont Cheddar and spicy chipotle chili powder with crunchy sea salt wake up everyone's taste buds," Garten says, making the crackers suitable for both casual lunches and fancy dinner parties.
Garten also says that she tends to prepare cheese cracker dough months in advance, freeze it, and then cut and bake the crackers right before the party starts. She also offers another version of her crackers that uses jalapeno, but her parmesan and thyme crackers may be better for those who can't take the heat.
