Martha Stewart has a special place in her heart for Mike’s Organic, a small grocery store with one location in Cos Cob, Connecticut. She likes to get her Thanksgiving turkey there.
Mike's Organic started in 2009 with community-supported agriculture, a way consumers connect with local farmers through a membership that provides weekly grocery delivery.
They exclusively partner with local farms, fishermen, and other food producers. Visitors can also get products at the retail store, where local farmers meet to share their skills.
These local farms and producers include Bread Alone Bakery, Raus Coffee, Lancaster Farm Fresh, and Pine Hill Farm. It makes the store sound like an indoor farm stand.
The store offers products from departments like produce, seafood, dairy, snacks, home products, and prepared foods, as well as some brands you might see at a local organic market.
