The Simplest Way To Cook Fresh Cauliflower
BY ELIZABETH OKOSUN
Cauliflower is a veggie that deserves more attention, with its mildly nutty flavor and high vitamin C and K, fiber, and potassium. Some of us are just intimidated by cooking it.
Roasting cauliflower is always great, but the easiest way to prepare it is by steaming it. Roasting takes 20-30 minutes, but you can steam this veggie in five minutes on the stove.
Steaming cauliflower better preserves both the health benefits and taste of the vegetable. To get started, remove the leaves and stems from your head of cauliflower.
Chop it into pieces and rinse the florets. Put them in a pot with a small amount of salted water, making sure not to submerge the cauliflower.
Cover the pot and let the florets steam for five to six minutes. Add a pat of butter to the pot or some melted brown butter once the veggie is done steaming.
Steamed cauliflower can taste quite plain, so try seasoning it both during and after cooking. You can use salt, pepper, butter, and/or herbs to enhance the mild flavor.
