The Simple Topping To Give Your Tacos A Tangy Kick
By Katherine Beck
Tacos are one of the most customizable foods out there, considering all the toppings one can choose from, from creamy guacamole, crunchy radishes, and spicy Sriracha crema to the controversial cilantro and slightly more unusual additions, such as wasabi peas. For yet another topping idea, take your taco to the next level with a certain colorful condiment.
After making your tasty tacos, instead of reaching for an avocado, top them off with some crunchy pickled red onions, which have a tangy flavor that will cut through even the richest of foods. Along with your tacos, this simple topping adds a zesty bite that pairs well with hot dogs and even avocado toast, and best of all, it’s very easy to make.
To make pickled red onion for your next taco night, all you need is red onion, apple cider vinegar, water, sugar, and salt. After slicing your red onion and placing it in a jar, bring the rest of the ingredients to a boil and stir until the sugar and salt are dissolved; then, pour the liquid over the onion, let it cool before sealing the jar, and refrigerate it for at least two hours.
