The Roasted Ingredient That Will Level Up Your Garlic Bread
By MOLLY HARRIS
While garlic bread is quick and easy, you can majorly upgrade this basic dish if you have some time on your hands. Adding extra ingredients is an easy way to pump up the flavor.
One of the best ingredients to add some extra flavor to your garlic bread is roasted shallots. These alliums pump up the garlic flavor while adding some sweetness and depth.
Start by roasting shallots in the oven until caramelized, then add them on top of the bread or blend them into the garlic and butter mixture before spreading it onto the bread.
To use the simple topping technique, spoon the roasted shallots onto slices of garlic bread and toast them further in the oven for just a few minutes until the shallots and bread are crisp.
To incorporate shallots directly to the garlic butter mixture, add the shallots to softened butter along with garlic and any herbs and combine everything until it's spreadable.
The sweeter onion flavor of the shallots will pair perfectly with the pungent garlic, giving you a side of garlic bread that's as fantastic as the pasta or meat you serve it with.
