The Rich Addition That Will Take Your Pizza Sauce Up A Notch
BY LENA BECK
Traditional pizza sauce is defined by the bright, fresh flavors of tomatoes, garlic, and olive oil, but adding a little butter can elevate its richness.
Tomatoes can be very acidic, the flavor can sometimes overpower your pizza. By adding a few tablespoons of butter to the sauce, you can balance the tartness out.
Be sure to still include some olive oil. The richness of the butter and the sharpness of the oil will give you a sauce that's more complex and pairs well with any pizza topping.
You can add butter to pizza sauce at the start of cooking it, add it when it's almost done, or even kick up a store-bought jar of pizza sauce by melting butter into it.
