The Restaurant Art Smith Says Has The Best Cuban Sandwich In Florida
By LISA CURRAN MATTE
Art Smith, a sixth-generation Floridian, has a far broader love for home cooking than just the traditional southern cuisine. His Florida roots are clear on the menu at his restaurant, Homecoming, where there is an homage to the state's famed Cuban sandwich, from which we may have been able to determine its source.
In an interview with Tampa Bay Times, Smith dished about a number of topics, from his gift of fresh eggs from his farm in Jasper, Florida, to his personal relationships with a multitude of celebrities. He then shared a secret, telling the reporter, "Miami is going to kill me, but I think the best Cuban sandwich in the whole state is in Tampa."
"It's a tiny spot, like a small square place," he said before divulging the name of the place: West Tampa Sandwich Shop. We checked the menu, and the Cuban sandwich at Art Smith's favorite Cuban-influenced restaurant in Florida is a hearty feast of ham, pork, salami, Swiss cheese, mayonnaise, mustard, and pickles. And you get all that for just $4.50!
