The Protein Filled Smoothie Addition Already In Your Pantry
BY JENNIFER SWEENIE
Almonds, a much-beloved snack all on their own, are equally spectacular when used in recipes. One of their best uses is adding a hearty sweetness to your morning smoothie.
Almonds come packed with key vitamins and nutrients, and they're an ample source of protein that add a much-needed filling boost to a produce-heavy smoothie.
Just 1 ounce of almonds contains 6 grams of protein, the same as a large egg. You can use whole almonds or use unsweetened almond milk as a cold base for your smoothie.
To use whole almonds, soak them before placing them in the blender. This will ensure that the blade isn't damaged and you won't have unincorporated chunks of almonds in your drink.
