The Popular Steakhouse Chain With A Gluten-Free Menu That's Always Reliable
BY Andi Prewitt
Popular U.S. chain Outback Steakhouse developed its gluten-free program over 10 years ago and now offers ample gluten-free options, making it ideal for those with celiac disease.
Outback apparently keeps registered dietitians on payroll, who not only dole out advice on how to eat healthier at the chain but also assist chefs with creating gluten-free dishes.
The company also works closely with the Gluten Intolerance Group, a nonprofit that educates the food industry about celiac. That said, Outback's kitchens are not gluten-free.
Cross-contamination is a risk, but Outback’s staff take extra precautions for gluten-free orders, like using clean cooking equipment and wearing fresh gloves to handle the food.
Steaks like barrel-cut filet mignon, ribeye, and NY strip, and seafoods like flaky salmon filet, steamed lobster tails, and Grilled Shrimp on the Barbie are gluten-free at Outback.
Its gluten-free sides are the baked sweet potato and the all-meat, no-beans Tasmanian Chili. The Chocolate Thunder From Down Under is a gluten-free dessert its dietician created.
