The 'Poor Man's' Cut Is A Cheaper Alternative Roast To Prime Rib
BY Luna Regina
While a prime rib roast can cost between $10 to $30 per pound, you can still enjoy a delicious roast beef dinner often by turning to what many call the "poor man's" roast cuts.
Despite delivering the same satisfying flavor and super-tender texture when prepared properly, each pound costs only about $5 to $7.
The catch is that, unlike the coveted ribs, the chuck and round roasts are sourced from the cattle's shoulder or leg, which contain more well-exercised muscles.
As a result, it tends to be tougher and less well-marbled than the rib meat. However, a good marinade to tenderize the meat and low-and-slow cooking can vastly improve your roast.
