The Pantry Favorite That Adds Depth To Your Hot Chocolate
By AMANDA BRETZ
Hot chocolate is the go-to winter drink for many, since it’s so comforting, satisfyingly sweet, and easy to customize. Popular add-ins or toppings include marshmallows and whipped cream, but if you want to double up on chocolate flavor and fancy up an instant mix, you can turn to an ingredient you may already have in your pantry.
Stirring a spoonful of a chocolate hazelnut spread like Nutella into your hot chocolate adds another level of rich chocolate flavor, and you can smear more spread on the rim of your mug and roll it in crushed hazelnuts to finish it off. You even make an all-Nutella hot chocolate by heating the spread and milk together on the stovetop.
Additionally, if you ever need to use up the leftover bits of Nutella that are clinging to the curves of the almost-empty jar, your Nutella hot chocolate just got even easier, while also helping you avoid food waste. Simply add warm milk to the jar, tighten the lid, and shake it up to make your hot chocolate right inside the jar.
