The Odd Ice Cream Flavor Andrew Zimmern Calls 'Just Awful'
By STEPHANIE FRIEDMAN
There are a lot of unusual ice cream flavors out there, from macaroni and cheese to jalapeño pickle and pizza flavors, and not all of them are as bad as they sound. However, James Beard Award-winning celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern, who has built a career on "bizarre" foods, absolutely cannot stand this one strange ice cream.
On his official website, Zimmern writes, "I want to spare you the pain and agony, please don't ever eat garlic ice cream." Garlic ice cream does exist and is sold at far more than one shop, and Zimmern explains that he's tried smoked salmon fudge ripple, bacon, tobacco, and blood ice creams, but garlic is his absolute least favorite.
While several recipes for garlic ice cream can be found online, the original may have come from Gilroy, California, also known as the Garlic Capital of the World and host of the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival. Those who do enjoy this ice cream may like to top it off with extras like honey, fruit, or even red pepper flakes.
