The Mayo Exchange For A More Flavorful Club Sandwich
BY AUSTIN HAVENS-BOWEN
Instead of using mayo on your club sandwich, try garlic aioli. It perfectly complements the sandwich made of lettuce, tomato, bacon, turkey, and three slices of toasted bread.
Aioli is essentially a variation of mayo that includes garlic and is generally richer and thicker. Most recipes use a combination of mayo, garlic, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
To make an easy aioli, blend store-bought mayo with chopped garlic cloves, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and any other other spices you like in a food processor or immersion blender.
For a 100% homemade aioli, you can oven-roast the garlic cloves first for more flavor, then mash them into a paste with a mortar and pestle, food processor, or blender.
Combine the garlic paste, fresh lemon juice, salt, and pepper, then slowly drizzle in the olive oil while mixing constantly until the sauce is smoothly combined.
Try other variations like spicy aioli with peppers, chilis, and hot sauce, or make lime aioli with cilantro. Any version will make your club sandwich much more delicious.
