To master the art of scoring sourdough and achieve both functional and aesthetically pleasing results, try using a turntable to score your dough.
When scoring a more complicated pattern, having a rotating base for your dough allows you to spin it as needed without having to reach your arms around or lift the dough.
If you don't have a turntable that's used for making cakes at home, you can also try a lazy Susan, a cake stand, or even the plate from your microwave.
