The José Andrés Salad Inspired By Chihuly's Glass Sculptures
By MOLLY HARRIS
When renowned chef José Andrés met the world-famous glass artist Dale Chihuly, the duo figured out a way to beautifully combine the glass master's work with Andrés’ culinary expertise. Their collaboration resulted in a salad dish that is as much of a masterpiece as Chihuly's colorful and whimsical glass creations.
Andrés's Garden and Glass Salad is a vibrant mix of colorful greens and vegetables altered into artistic versions of themselves, including gel tomatoes and fragile caramel-glass vials of olive oil, along with edible flowers and delicate herbs. The dish is arranged to mimic how Chihuly uses color and form in his glasswork.
As you take a bite, the flavors of the fresh vegetables and herbs explode in your mouth, creating a sensory experience that is every bit as exciting as looking at art. It is a dish that is a celebration of color, form, and texture, and one that perfectly captures the spirit of collaboration and creativity that brought it into being.
