The James Beard-Inspired Sandwich From Jacques Pépin With Minimal Ingredients

In his series, "Jacques Pépin Cooking At Home," Jacques Pépin shared that James Beard once made him a circular sandwich featuring bread, an onion slice, salt, mayo, and parsley.
In the series, Pépin shares his take on Beard's recipe. Pépin's version swaps the onion for radishes, the mayo for butter, and the parsley for chives but uses the same technique.
To start, Pépin puts thin radish slices on top of bread pieces slathered with sweet and salted butter. He sprinkles salt on the radishes and presses the edges to seal the sandwich.
Pépin then cuts the edges of the sandwich to create flat edges where butter can be spread. Finally, he presses the buttered edges on a plate coated with freshly cut chives.
