The Ingredients That Will Change Your Meatloaf Forever
By LAUREN ROTHMAN
Some foods are greater than the sum of their parts, and meatloaf is one of them. This comforting, nostalgic, hearty dish is made with a handful of staple ingredients that turn into a fragrant and delicious meal, but to take your meatloaf to the next level, try adding these mix-ins.
Meatloaf is typically made with ground beef, chopped onion and garlic, bread crumbs, and ketchup, but to really make your meatloaf sing, try adding freshly chopped sage and rosemary. The fresh herbs really make the finished dish stand out and elevate the flavors.
According to Tasting Table’s recipe developer Christina Musgrave, the sage and rosemary “…add an herby and savory flavor that elevates the meatloaf.” To try these additions for yourself, add in your fresh herbs while you sauté your chopped onion and garlic, then fold the flavorful mix into your ground beef base.
