The Inexpensive Kitchen Tool Michael Symon Swears By For Juicing Citrus
By STEPHANIE FRIEDMAN
If you’ve ever put all your strength into squeezing a lemon, only to squeeze out a lot of seeds and a few drops of juice, you may be on the hunt for a better method. Celebrity chef Michael Symon recommends one versatile kitchen tool for juicing citrus with less effort, and it's not a unitasker like an actual lemon juicer.
Symon told E! News that tongs are "versatile and useful, especially when cooking with fire or juicing citrus." Designed to keep your hands free from touching food, tongs are a mess-free way to get the most juice out of your lemons or limes: just squeeze half of the fruit between the tong handles, and fresh juice will pour out.
The key is to keep the citrus as close as possible to the "joint" of the tongs, where the handles connect, rather than using the tips of the tongs. Squeeze the tong clamps with your hands and you'll get a decent amount of juice — perhaps not as much compared to using a juicing device, but this trick will save you time, money, and effort.
