The Important Role Of The Raised Dots On The Bottom Of Starbucks Cups
By Jen Peng
The new Starbucks cold cups have some raised dots along the bottom edge. Although the bumps are not Braille like some have speculated, they are to help those with low visibility.
Per Starbucks, the new dots "signify different sizes that can be felt with a swipe of the thumb." A tall cup has one dot, a grande has two, and a venti has three.
Starbucks launched these cups in April 2024. They also feature embossed sizes on the bottom, so baristas can determine which size they are grabbing by feeling alone.
These new cold cups are an example of Starbucks’ Commitment to Access and Disability Inclusion, "[p]ackaging that is easy to distinguish by touch or clear visual markers."
