The Hearty Canned Addition That Makes Lasagna More Comforting
BY Matthew Spina
Lasagna is a recipe made to be messed with, as its layers of pasta slices allow for many additions. One addition that can instantly make the meal more comforting is canned chili.
Canned chili is a spicy tomato meat sauce with beans, so it's a natural pairing with plenty of melty cheeses. Plus, it cuts down on the prep time of making tomato sauce.
Moreover, you can easily swap in canned chili for marinara or meat sauce at the same ratio, and with so many high-quality brands on the market, you won't sacrifice any flavor.
Simply spread it between each layer just as you would a meat sauce. Pay attention to how thick your chili is; it can be more or less viscous, depending on the brand.
You also don't want it to dry out too much in the oven. If the chili is too thick, you can thin it out with a little stock, tomato sauce, or water without hurting the flavor.
