The Hass Avocado Market Is Booming. Here's Why
By KAREN GRECO
Hass avocados have been a culinary sensation for a while now. The Hass tree's ability to produce a copious amount of fruit year-round with a higher oil content and better flavor has made the Hass avocado the most popular in the world, with around 80% of the avocados eaten worldwide being this variety.
After a pre-pandemic dip in avocado sales, their popularity and global demand exploded to record highs. This is partly due to the fruit's expansion into the European market, where Hass avocados are prized for their ripening ability; they are also considered a ready-to-eat food and are popular grab-and-go items.
The Hass boom can also be attributed to a renewed interest in healthy eating during the pandemic. Avocados are nutrient bombs, feeding your body with tons of vitamins and nutrients, and the fruit has countless culinary possibilities, from grain bowls to margaritas to one of its most popular uses: as a rich and delicious toast spread.
