The Grilled Ingredient Enhancement For Your Summertime Chartreuse Swizzle
BY AUTUMN SWIERS
Chartreuse is a green or yellow liqueur from Voiron, France, made with 130 herbs and botanicals to create a floral, herbaceous, slightly fruity flavor with a minty finish.
The chartreuse swizzle is an elegant drink featuring chartreuse, falernum, pineapple juice, and lime juice. The best way to make this sipper even better is to fire up the grill.
Grilled pineapple has an intensely sweet and smoky char that's pure magic in a chartreuse swizzle. Fresh pineapple chars better on the grill compared to canned fruit.
Grill rings of pineapple, chop them up, then muddle them at the bottom of a Collins glass to serve as a base for your swizzle. Next, add a generous pile of crushed ice.
Pour in the chartreuse, falernum, and lime juice and mix the drink up for the perfect summer refresher. You also have a few choices when it comes to the liqueur.
Chartreuse is sold in a green variety, made from sugar beets with a 55% ABV, while yellow chartreuse is made with grapes and slightly sweeter, with a 40% ABV.
Falernum is a rum-based liqueur flavored with spices, lime, and almond, a perfect pairing with pineapple. It can be hard to find in stores, but it's also easy to make your own.
