The Fruity Liqueur That Takes Your Sazerac Cocktail To The Next Level
BY COURTNEY ISEMAN
While the classic Sazerac, featuring absinthe, rye whiskey, Peychaud's bitters, and sugar, packs a special zing, you can elevate it further with a fruity kick of banana liqueur.
The liqueur has a silky, slightly fuller mouthfeel that enhances Sazerac's chilled sweetness, while banana balances sweetness with tartness, earthy bitterness, and a creamy finish.
The Sazerac with bananas, which is also called a Bananarac, calls for an absinthe rinse, an ounce of rye whiskey, and a dash of aromatic bitters, much like the classic recipe.
Additionally, it features a ½ ounce of banana liqueur, an ounce of Armagnac, a ½ teaspoon of demerara simple syrup, and a lemon twist for garnish.
For the banana element, the Bananarac specifically lists Giffard Banane du Brésil liqueur, which has a rich finish, but you can use any brand that brings a real banana flavor.
