The Fizzy Ingredient To Elevate The Richness Of Apple Dumplings
BY KYLE GRACE MILLS
Some cooks swear by using soda as a recipe aid for savory dishes, but oddly enough, despite its generally high sugar content, soda is less commonly used in crafting desserts.
Adding Moutain Dew to your apple dumpling recipe can make for a truly sweet and tender treat by acting as the sweet poaching liquid for the apples and dumplings.
Create your apple dumplings according to your favorite recipe. Once you’ve placed them in a baking dish, pour Mountain Dew into the base of the dish.
A 3/4 cup of Mountain Dew will steam 8 large or 16 small dumplings; if you feel like experimenting, other citrus sodas like 7-Up, Sprite, or Squirt can work just as nicely.
Bake your dumplings at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 to 40 minutes and serve piping hot, preferably with a generous scoop of ice cream.
