The First Thing To Do Prior To Cooking In A Vacation Rental
BY CHLOE O'DONNELL
If you’re someone who likes their vacation rental to have a nice kitchen, make sure to give the grill, stovetop, and oven a good scrub before you cook anything.
Burnt food and grease that’s built up inside an oven can cause fumes that will stick to your dish, altering the taste. Ovens and grills covered in gunk also won’t work as well.
Food and grease remnants in the oven can also burn, leading to smoke filled with chemicals like carbon monoxide that is dangerous to breathe and will ruin your food.
If the oven doesn’t have a self-cleaning mode, use an oven cleaner or make your own by combining baking soda and water. Spray it on the stove and spritz it with vinegar.
Let everything sit for about half an hour before scrubbing down the oven with a scouring pad. While you wait, clean the oven racks by soaking them in hot water and dish soap.
For the grill, use a grill brush or metal scraper for the debris, then scrub with hot, soapy water. It doesn’t have to be perfect; just be sure to remove any problematic gunk.
