The Fancy Ingredient That Will Change Your Deviled Eggs Forever
By AUTUMN SWIERS
Deviled eggs are a favorite hors d'oeuvres at fancy dinner parties or afternoon get-togethers. One of the most show-stopping ingredients to add to deviled eggs involves more eggs: spooning some caviar onto this appetizer makes it more mouthwatering, nutritious, and of course, special.
Caviar is fish eggs from sturgeon (any other fish eggs are just "roe"), and not only are these little morsels intoxicatingly luxurious, but they also boast an impressive array of health benefits. Dietician Patricia Lane calls caviar a "nutritional powerhouse" packed with omega-3 fatty acids that promote healthy skin and boost the immune system.
A dollop of the black stuff on your deviled eggs will add an unexpected, flavorful bite with a salty, briny flare. Christopher Klapp of caviar brand Petrossian advises not to use metal silverware for caviar, as it “absorbs flavors of the metal"; instead, use a spoon made from Mother of Pearl, bone, ivory, or shell to add caviar to your eggs.
