The Entertaining Rule Ina Garten Never Breaks
By LAUREN ROTHMAN
As a pro chef who has built her career on effortlessly elegant recipes and home entertaining advice, Ina Garten is the expert to turn to when you need help with a dinner party or brunch at your place. In addition to great recipes, Garten also offers do's and don'ts to follow in order to make your hosting job as low-stress as possible.
Since you never know how a recipe will turn out until you make it, Garten warns against cooking a dish you've never tried before when you have guests coming over. In a YouTube clip, Garten says, "When I'm entertaining, I want to be really sure that the dish is exactly the flavor I want it to be — and that usually takes one or two tries."
Bon Appétit sums up Garten's sentiment in five simple words: "Don't attempt a maiden voyage." The next time you host guests for a meal, stick to tried-and-true recipes that you know will turn out great, and save those "maiden voyages" — AKA, ventures into recipes you've never made before — for solo experiments in the kitchen.
