The Elegant Way Ina Garten Arranges Shrimp Scampi
By CARA O’BLENESS
The “Barefoot Contessa” Ina Garten is known for sharing quick recipes and invaluable tips so that the average home cook can create simple yet sophisticated meals. Garten’s baked shrimp scampi recipe is easy enough for novice cooks to pull it off, but the final presentation of the dish makes it look like you put in lots of effort.
Garten's recipe calls for butterflying shrimp, which involves de-veining tail-on shrimp, then running your knife along the back of the crustacean to open the shrimp up. From there, the instructions outlined in Garten’s Food Network recipe call for marinating the shrimp and preparing a flavorful garlic butter mixture.
When it’s time to arrange the dish, place the shrimp cut side-down in a 14-inch oval baking dish with the tails up and pointed inward. Arrange the shrimp around the outer edge of the dish in a circle, then place the rest in the center of the circle to add a lovely, put-together aesthetic to this easy meal that is sure to impress your guests.
