The Easy Tartar Sauce That Keeps Your Fish Fry Simple
BY AUSTIN HAVENS-BOWEN
When cooking a fish fry, skimping on the main dish to simplify the process is a no-no. However, the tartar sauce you serve can be made using as little as three ingredients.
For 12 servings, mix 1 cup of mayo, ½ cup of sweet pickle relish, and 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. You can then add spices, herbs, and other spicy or tangy ingredients.
The mayo acts as a creamy base, while the relish adds a tangy sweetness, and the lemon juice offers acidity. The basic, three-ingredient sauce will be delicious as-is.
If the sauce tastes too acidic or sweet, add some mayo and then adjust to taste. It's best to make the sauce ahead of time and refrigerate it so that the flavors have time to meld.
