The Correct Way To Eat Bread And Butter At A Restaurant
BY CATHERINE NYORANI
The art of consuming bread and butter is about savoring each bite and showing appreciation for the craft of the chefs and the hospitality of the establishment.
If served in a communal basket, the diner closest to the bread should offer it first to the person on their left and then on their right so everyone can take their share.
If bread is served individually, wait until everyone has been served before enjoying. To eat it, tear bite-sized pieces of the bread rather than eating from the whole roll.
If the butter is served in a communal dish, use a butter knife to transfer some to your plate rather than spreading it directly on your bread to avoid double-dipping.
Feel free to use individual butter portions as needed. Simply spread the butter on your bite of bread and enjoy, making sure to socialize in the meantime.
