The Cornbread Twist That'll Make Your Next Batch Even Sweeter
BY NIKKI MUNOZ
To upgrade cornbread, add extra brown sugar and chopped pecans. The sugar brings a toffee-like sweetness and the pecans bring a nutty savoriness, creating a complex flavor profile.
Try this method with a store-bought cornbread mix or a homemade recipe. Add in one to two tablespoons of brown sugar and a handful of chopped pecans, then bake as directed.
Adjust the ingredient amounts to fit your preferences. One tablespoon of brown sugar will add just a touch of sweetness, while three will provide plenty.
If you want extra nuttiness, add ½ cup of chopped pecans or include extra pecan pieces on the top of the batter so they rest on top of the finished bread.
