During a "CBS Mornings" interview, Alton Brown revealed that he can't stand the trend of messing with comfort food classics, saying, "I don't want my comfort food elevated."
"It's comforting because nobody messed with it," he added. For Brown and scores of others who like comfort food, the secret behind its success is its simplicity.
While Brown doesn't cite any specific examples of elevated comfort foods he disagrees with, they could be anything from lobster mac and cheese to multi-cheese grilled cheeses.
Brown's favorite comfort food recipes do feature a few twists he is known for, but he once learned the hard way not to tinker with comfort food so much that it overhauls the dish.
His attempt at crockpot lasagna resulted in what he called his career's worst dish. It led him to try again and ultimately make an oven-baked lasagna with traditional elements.
