The Classic Louisiana Dish That Kamala Harris Loves
BY JOLEE SULLIVAN
A seasoned traveler with Indian and Jamaican roots, Vice President Kamala Harris is no stranger to eclectic cuisines, and one that she truly loves is a Louisiana classic: gumbo.
In a video posted to her YouTube, Harris named the dish with Native American, African, and French roots as her favorite. She especially seems to like the seafood-heavy version.
Gumbo is a rich, hearty stew known for its robust Cajun and Creole flavors. It typically features complex spices, vegetables, and proteins like sausage, chicken, and seafood.
A self-proclaimed "lifelong gumbo apprentice," Harris grew up eating gumbo. Her fondness for it reflects her appreciation for soulful, comforting food that brings people together.
