The Cheap, Versatile Tool That Perfectly Mimics A Pizza Stone
BY Tracy Doucette
If you're a fan of homemade pizzas, a pizza stone is a worthwhile investment. However, if you're tight on budget, you can easily substitute it with unglazed ceramic tiles.
Typically costing under five bucks, ceramic tiles are lightweight, can be easily arranged for any size or shape of pizza, and are usually a breeze to clean and store.
These tiles are great for cooking, as they're water-resistant, non-porous, and retain heat much like a brick oven. They also offer nice heat distribution, ensuring even cooking.
Start with a cold oven, and arrange the tiles according to the pizza’s size. Allow them to preheat at 500 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 to 45 minutes before cooking pizza as usual.
