The Boozy Ingredient That Gives French Toast An Instant Elevation
BY SIMONE GERBER
For a truly sophisticated batch of French toast, all you need is a splash of triple sec, a French orange liqueur with an acidity that brings many benefits.
Triple sec's acidity rounds out the richness of the eggy custard and yeasty bread, while the bite from the alcohol content contrasts the at-times cloying sweetness of the dish.
The easiest way to add this ingredient to your French toast is by adding it directly into the custard as it’s prepared. Add ⅓ of a tablespoon to 1 tablespoon for each egg used.
