The Biggest Drawback That Comes With Magnetic Knife Strips
BY AUTUMN SWIERS
Whether you buy knives in bulk or own a curated set of expensive knives, proper storage is vital. While a magnetic knife strip is a convenient method, it also has some drawbacks.
Magnetic strips can damage knives over time by scratching them or magnetizing the blades themselves. They can even cause thin Japanese-style knives to snap in half.
Also, if mounted over an oven, your knives can accumulate a layer of oil and grease. Knife strips can also be a safety hazard for curious kids or cats who jump up on the counter.
If you’re committed to the convenience of a magnetic strip, opt for a wooden-plated strip which is easier on the blades. You can slide the knives off rather than pulling them.
